“For some reason, we are truly convinced that if we criticise ourselves, the criticism will lead to change. If we are harsh, we believe we will end up being kind. If we shame ourselves, we believe we end up loving ourselves. It has never been true, not for a moment, that shame leads to love. Only love leads to love” – Geneen Roth.

This quote represents the distorted thinking we get stuck on, believing this will motivate us to change or to ‘improve’ our self-belief. This is far from the truth. The following video Dove Experiment shows the difference between our self-image versus the actual self-image. The important exercise is to look at what we think we look like versus what the world actually sees. Enjoy this lovely and thoughtful ‘real beauty’ sketches.
